Along with the announcement of next-generation, M1-equipped Macs, we are also getting Logic Pro 10.6. Apple has now issued the latest update for its flagship music production software to coincide with the latest MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini models. While it’s certainly not as groundbreaking as the massive 10.5 update issued earlier this year, there are some interesting enhancements here along with an influx of new and very much free MainStage content. Read on for the details.

Can you use novation launchpad with garageband

Applies to: Launchkey Original. To connect your Launchkey to an iPad, you will need: An Apple USB camera connection kit (not included) You must plug the USB cable into the Launchkey Mk1 first, then plug the other end into the Camera Connection Kit. Finally, connect the camera connection kit to the iPad. If you change the order of connection you may receive an error message on the iPad. Question: Q: How to connect an iPad Launchpad to GarageBand on Mac. Good afternoon, So recently I just downloaded the Novation Launchpad on my iPad, but I plan on using it on my Mac's garageband. How do I set it up so that the two devices can be connected, and therefore play music using the two devices? Launchpad Mini is our most compact and portable 64 RGB pad MIDI grid controller. It gives you everything you need to start performing in Ableton Live - and it'll fit in your bag. Start making and performing tracks with Ableton Live wherever you are, using the huge array of sounds in the box to get you started. Everything you need to get hands-on with your sound. This is where it all began. The Launchpad was the birth of the grid system that fuelled an evolution in electronic music. It's time you joined in. Grab a Launchpad. Now you can launch your clips from a grid of pads that match your session. Add a Launch Control XL and take hands-on control of your filters, effects and instruments too. The Novation Launchpad is a music performance app for iPad that will have you making beats and triggering loops instantly. It's packed full of high quality loops and sounds that can be combined in the multi-color 8x6 Launchpad grid to make and remix music.

    It's all about Ableton

Did you watch the video? Because that info doesent match up to what I'm demonstrating in the video..

The only missing feature is required powered hub but I didn’t try to connect my launchkey 61 mk2 directly to cck3 with charging alongside (maybe in the video? I’ll check it after this comment) but the pros are lots to state these are worst than mk1 IMO.

Edit: checking the video until your adaptor tests I can wait to go and try mine...
    Gear used:
    Cck3 usb
Cck 30 pins usb plus 30 pins into lightning
    Launchkey 61 mk2
    iPhone 5s
    iPad mini 4
    iOS 11.0.1

    Results

It doesn’t work only in iPhone 5s with two adaptor option.

  • Launchkey 49 mk2 works without a charger on iPad mini 2 as well as on iPhone 5S so I guess it should work fine with other Apple products as well.

The pads can also receive midi data and their light depends on velocity of midi notes played (I use it with drum tracks in Cubasis - just set Launchkey InControl Ch16 as midi out in Routing).

  • After finally check the entire video I will add an interesting plus...
More than one Launch controllers could be used at the same time (tested with launchkey and launch control xl after ask ampify).

    Congrats @jakoB_haQ for the video!

Ah, I never tested any 30 pin adaptor and I do not own any products with such a connection. Thanks for testing that!

When you say Pads could 'receive' midi data..I assume you mean 'transmit'?

Not all the way through, weird that they would provide incorrect info that understates the benefits though.

The pads light up based on incoming midi data, the note selects which pad, the velocity the colour......

I will share it everytime someone ask me about launch controllers for sure

  • I use the LaunchKEY MK2 49 into my IConnectAudio+ while being able to charge my 1st generation iPad Pro and holding a charge on my Air2. All that without needing a power adapter for the LaunchKEY. Everything works great together.

I think the info is outdated. They've made several updates to Launchpad for instance that they've probably fixed whatever didn't work before. Because it's most definitely working now. I think they're just par with updating the documentation.

However the info might not be so weird regarding the 'powering stuff'. There have been so many issues for several users with setups stoping to work over the years due to some Apple iOS update. I think Novation is trying to play it safe. I might be wrong...but if one follow the instructions they've put into the documentation then your setup would work.

There are more companies that do this when it comes to iOS powering stuff. Akai too if I'm not remembering wrong.

Yeah, as I showed in the video, I tested several configurations with several devices and they all worked out for me. Before I did my tests I seriously didn't believe that the older CCK would work with LaunchKEY. Happily surprised! =D

Looks intriguing. I like the pads and InControl mode as shown with the Zeeon example. Wish it had MIDI Din and an arp. Alesis VI25 has MIDI Din but no arp. Akai's MPK225 has MIDI Din, arp, but 8 pads (and is $100 more).

I like the form factor more with the Launchkey Mini than the Launchkey MK2 since it 4 inches less in depth and 5 inches less in width. You lose the bigger keys and scroll wheels but still get the In Control mode. I don't mind the size of the Mini's keys.

@ipadthai it has 16 pads... maybe do you were wondering tr-sequencer (16 steps) like beastep or similars? I will love to see something like from novation added into their circuit line.

Oops you're right. I'm an idiot. Okay, so no arp or MIDI Din. Edited my post

Are the Mini's pads smaller than the MK2's? Maybe I'll stop by Guitar Center and compare in person.

  • @ipadthai don’t be so hard on you, mate... people usually see what is looking for and sometimes details get lost in mind. If you ask me about another keyboard controller I probably will fail to remember anything and there are strange products with strange pad numbering (like my vestax pad one with twelve pads... wtf?)

    Also for you another question...

Ah so you have both? Quick question: I see the InControl on the Mini is only one button, versus two for the Launchkey 25. Does that mean it's not possible to do the Zeeon example in the video (use encoders to control Zeeon parameters while using pads for Launchpad at same time)?

I’ve played around with light shows. It is doable, but a bit of a hassle. I’ll have another crack in Xcode one of these days.

Thanks for the review, I've been interested in this keyboard as I need a decent controller, and they're very good value. I must check out how they work with Maschine on the desktop, as that's my main DAW.

I don’t have them sorry... internet pic but your question is interesting....
In the support manual seems point “not alloweed” separated inControl as bigger ones.
    https://us.novationmusic.com/keys/launchkey-mini/support-downloads

Said that I will remember to anyone that launch control and launch control XL also can launch clips and could work alongside other launch controllers like the mini, doubling functions or controlling them separately realtime and at the same time.
This video show how each one works with launchpad app so imagine using two controllers (I still didn’t tested three but someday I will buy a launchpad mk2 or pro... or another launchkey mk2)

Tested on mini2, iPhone SE and iPhone 7plus and working without hub on all of them. Didn’t work at first on the SE. Then when I came back to it after other devices, it did. Odd. Haven’t tested it on my iPad yet but should be fine if running on those others.

It’s actually a nice little unit. Has few solid advantage over the Nanokey Studio....proper keys and mod/pitch wheels, 16 pads, a slider (impossible not to think about potential Drambo scenes crossfader with that....), better feeling knobs, ability to switch midi channel from the unit, iPhone sits nice on the empty space on top... etc....

I've had one for a while and use it all the time, great controller....one thing you must try if you haven't already....try it with Groovebox ! This really shows some of the real potential of the Launchkey as well as lifting Groovebox imho... I wish it were easy to have this sort of integration with more apps.
